I definitely went a little deeper into Hebrews than maybe I needed to, but I really wanted to explain why this book’s theological framework pointing to Jesus as the perfect sacrifice is the point of the overall focus. If you can see this point about Jesus being the perfect sacrifice, you will understand the seriousness of God’s ONLY way to salvation. This fact weighs heavily in our theology of submission (Jesus submitting to The Father) and propitiation (Jesus appeasing the wrath of God for humanity).
Religion can be a destroyer of one’s Christian faith and we must make this stagnant approach to following Jesus as “non-starter.” Our faith is active and leads us into deeper relationship with our Savior and King; religion leads us into repetition and staleness. Seeing the truth in that shortcoming will either lead us closer to God in submission or will give our sinful flesh an excuse to slack and fall away. Choose submission because falling away is the worst choice for your soul.
